Selection criteria

Choosing the sets featured in this article was a simple task because LEGO offers only a few sets that focus entirely on Yoda. I also decided to include sets based on the TV Show Mandalorian that feature figures of Baby Yoda or Grog.

Even though the selection process was easy, I still utilized a variety of parameters that helped me pick the best Yoda sets. Here are some of the most important criteria I used during the selection process:

  • Set’s release date – Not all sets you’ll find in this article are still in production, but each set was released within the last few years and is still available on the market.
  • The number of pieces – I used this parameter to select both challenging and easy to build sets so that you can pick the option that best matches your building skills.

The overview of the Star Wars theme

theme

The collaboration between Lucasfilm Production Company and LEGO started in 1999. Today, more than two decades later, Star Wars is one of LEGO’s most popular themes that includes more than fifty sets aimed at children and adults.

This number is much higher if you factor in all the Star Wars sets LEGO retired over the years. Currently, some of the most popular and most valuable Star Wars sets are:

Yoda sets are not among the most popular sets from the Star Wars theme as they’re overshadowed by the sets based on spaceships, structures, or other characters from the movies. In addition, sets inspired by the TV series Mandalorian are also in high demand.

At the moment, LEGO offers only one set that is based entirely on Yoda’s character, and the company hasn’t announced plans to release new Yoda sets in the foreseeable future.

Variations of the Yoda figure

Variations of the Yoda figure

LEGO released several different versions of the Yoda figure in the last twenty years. The first variation appeared in sets inspired by scenes from Star Wars published from 2002 onwards. These figures were featured in sets based on the events and characters from Episode II: Attack of the Clones movie.

Even the latest Yoda figure set is based on the character’s appearance in this movie. The same version of the figure was used in LEGO’s Episode III: Revenge of the Sith subtheme.

The second variation of the Yoda figure was included in just two sets, LEGO Star Wars Armored Assault Tank 8018, published in 2009, and LEGO Star Wars Republic Frigate, published in 2011. Both sets are retired, but they can still be found on the market.

The third variant of the Yoda figure was designed for the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 7958. It is worth noting that sets like the Duel on Geonosis 75017 and AT-RT 75002 feature unique variants of the Yoda mini-figure.

LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar sets

calendar

LEGO started releasing seasonal sets within different themes in 1998. The first Star Wars-themed Advent Calendar published in 2011 contained nine mini-figures, including the figure of Yoda wearing a Santa Clause suit.

So far, LEGO has released ten Star Wars Advent Calendar sets, but none of the subsequent versions contained a Yoda mini-figure. However, the latest LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar 75307 set is based on the Mandalorian TV show, and it contains a Baby Yoda mini-figure.

Fans of the original and prequel Star Wars trilogies searching for rare variants of Yoda mini-figures should consider getting LEGO’s 2011 Star Wars Advent Calendar set because LEGO’s Advent Calendar sets are a true treat for all LEGO Star Wars collectors.

Discontinued LEGO Yoda sets

Discontinued LEGO Yoda sets

The LEGO Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Yoda 75255 set is currently the only LEGO’s set from the Star Wars theme that features a buildable model of the Yoda figure. Moreover, sets like the Yoda’s Jedi Starfighter or the LEGO Yoda set 7194 are no longer in production, and they can be hard to find.

Over the course of the last decade, LEGO released only a few sets that contain Master Yoda mini-figures, and most of these sets are retired. Hence, sets like the Homing Spider Droid 75142 and The Droid Gunship 75233 are discontinued even though they were released in 2016 and 2019.

Most of the discontinued LEGO Yoda sets are still available on the market, but you may have to spend hundreds of dollars to get them.

You should only purchase retired LEGO sets that contain Yoda mini-figures from reliable sources because you can end up with a set that is missing crucial pieces if you don’t check the retailer’s credibility.

The most important factors to consider while choosing a LEGO Yoda set

star

Finding the best LEGO Yoda set shouldn’t take too much effort because there are only a handful of options to choose from. The majority of sets that contain Yoda mini-figures are no longer in production, which is the reason why they can be difficult to find.

In fact, you may have to spend close to $1,000 if you want to get a sealed and unused LEGO Yoda set released in 2002. I’ve shortlisted some of the most important factors you need to take into account during your search for the best LEGO Yoda set, so let’s take a look at them.

Recommended age

LEGO Duplo series doesn’t include the Star Wars theme. Consequently, none of the LEGO Yoda sets are suitable for preschoolers because they contain small pieces that pose a choking risk. Even the sets based on Baby Yoda are designed for children aged 7 or older.

The recommended age serves as a guideline that can help you determine if a particular set is too challenging for a child. This doesn’t mean that a child under the age of ten is going to struggle to build a LEGO Joda set since most of these sets are easy to assemble.

The number of pieces in a set

The LEGO Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Yoda 75255 has more than 1,700 pieces and it is the largest LEGO Joda set you can get. The first, now discontinued, LEGO Star Wars set that featured a model of Master Joda was much smaller as its official piece count was at 1,075 pieces.

Most sets containing Yoda or Baby Yoda figures don’t have a high piece count, and they usually have less than 500 pieces. Paying attention to the number of pieces in a set can help you determine how much time you’re going to need to build it.

Set building skills

set

You don’t have to be a seasoned builder to assemble any of the LEGO Joda sets. Moreover, each set comes with detailed building instructions, so you just have to follow the steps to put the set together.

The duration of the assembly process depends on the number of pieces a set has. It shouldn’t take you more than a few hours to build a set like the Homing Spider Droid 75142 or the Yoda’s Jedi Starfighter, as they have fewer than 400 pieces.

On the other hand, it might take you up to a week to assemble a set like the LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian – The Child 75318.

Availability of a Yoda set

As we already noted, the majority of sets that feature a Yoda mini-figure are discontinued. Nonetheless, retired Yoda sets are still available on the market, although they’re considerably more expensive than sets that are still in production.

Finding an unused retired set can be difficult, as their availability depends on how many models remain in stock. LEGO fans often subscribe to waiting lists if they want to get a rare LEGO Joda set that was withdrawn from production.

Set’s price

In most cases, you won’t have to spend more than $100 on a Joda set, unless you’re searching for a rare set that was retired more than ten years ago. Some discontinued sets that feature the Joda mini-figure can cost more than $100 even though they contain less than 500 pieces.

Also, the price of a retired LEGO Joda set depends on a retailer, and you should compare the prices of a set you want to get before deciding to purchase it.
