Overview of the Jurassic World Theme

LEGO released its first dinosaur-themed playset a decade before launching the Jurassic World theme. The Dino Attack theme featured sets like the Urban Avenger vs. Raptor 7474 or Iron Predator vs. T-Rex 7476 equipped with armored ATVs and dinosaurs created by a mad scientist.

By 2015 the Dino Attack, or just Dino from 2012 onwards, evolved into the Jurassic World theme and its sets served as a basis for the development of models inspired by Jurassic World movies. Hence, most models from this theme contain similar elements.

LEGO initially released six sets within this theme in May and June 2015 to promote the Jurassic World movie that premiered on June 10. These sets were retired the following year, and LEGO didn’t add new sets to the Jurassic World theme until 2018.

Active LEGO Jurassic World Sets

Jurassic World theme currently features just ten active sets, but six models are temporarily out of stock, and there’s no information on when they will be available again. Hence, this theme is much smaller than some of LEGO’s trendiest themes, like Star Wars or Marvel.

Most models contain one or more dinosaur toys and different off-road vehicles and aircraft. The number of minifigures depends on the model, but none of the active sets features more than four minifigures.

Observation posts, mini-labs, or boats are among the elements kids can build from bricks included in the sets. Jurassic World sets are designed for young LEGO fans since none of the active models is made exclusively for adult audiences.

New LEGO Jurassic World Sets in 2022

The premiere date of Jurassic World: Dominion, the franchise’s latest sequel, is scheduled for June 10, 2022.

Earlier this year, LEGO announced the arrival of new Jurassic World sets in April 2022 based on the characters and scenes from the upcoming Jurassic World movie. However, it is unclear how many sets the company is going to release at this point.

So far, only three models are available for pre-order at the company’s website, and they should start shipping from April 17. The release of these Jurassic World sets was confirmed.

Different sources indicate that LEGO plans to add nine new sets to this theme by the end of the year, but the titles, descriptions, or exact piece counts of these sets aren’t available. Fans speculate that the upcoming Jurassic Word model should have set numbers from 76944 through 76949.

Piece Counts of LEGO Jurassic World Sets

The recently discontinued Jurassic Park: T-Rex Rampage 75936 had 3,120 pieces, and it is still the biggest LEGO Jurassic World set ever released.

The Indoraptor Rampage at the Lockwood Estate 75930 and the Indominus Rex Breakout 75919 were also among the sets released within the Jurassic World theme with relatively high piece counts, but neither of these sets had more than 1,200 pieces.

The upcoming T-Rex Breakout 76956 will become the second-largest Jurassic Park set upon its release in April 2022. However, most sets LEGO published since the introduction of this theme in 2015 had between 100 and 500 pieces.

Just one active Jurassic World set has fewer than 100, while five models have between 100 and 250 pieces. Sets from this theme are perfect for kids who don’t have advanced set-building skills, but they’re often underwhelming for a teen or adult LEGO builder.

The range of options you’ll have at your disposal will be limited if you’d like to get an active Jurassic World set since you can choose from just ten models. Opting for a retired set will present you with more options, but it will also make the selection process more difficult.

I’ve listed several factors that can assist you in finding the right LEGO Jurassic World set, so let’s take a closer look at them.

The Jurassic World Movie the Set is Based On

Sets from this theme are based on different Jurassic World movies and TV shows. However, most models based on the Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen World, and Jurassic Park movies are no longer in production.

Furthermore, nearly all models scheduled for release in 2022 will be based on the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion movie. Choosing a movie or a TV show from the Jurassic Word franchise can help you find the LEGO set that fits your search criteria.

Your Set-Building Skills

You don’t have to be a seasoned LEGO builder to assemble a Jurassic World set. These sets usually contain a handful of elements that are easy to build, and they’re an excellent option for kids who want to practice their set-building skills.

Once it is released, the T-Rex Breakout 76956 will become one of the first Jurassic World sets designed for adult LEGO builders. All other models are suitable for children under the age of ten, but some sets can be overwhelming for four-year-olds.

Minifigures and Accessories

Characters like Owen Grady, Henry Wu, or Claire Dearing frequently appear in Jurassic World sets. However, the list of characters is slightly different for each model, so you need to check if the model you’d like to get features an Owen Grady or Claire Dearing minifigure.

Jurassic World sets usually have up to five minifigures, and they feature accessories like net shooters, dinosaur eggs, or tranquilizing guns. Going through the set’s list of minifigures and accessories can help you determine how entertaining it is.

Active Jurassic World sets are in high demand, and you may not be able to find them on the LEGO website. However, brick-and-mortar stores and online retailers have these sets in stock, so finding active or retired models shouldn’t be too difficult.

Most Jurassic World sets released in 2021 could be discontinued by the end of 2022, so finding currently active models may become challenging in the second part of the year.

Price Range

None of the active sets in this theme costs more than $100, while most models are budget-friendly as their price varies from $25 to $50. Rare retired Jurassic World sets can be costly, and depending on the retailer, you may have to spend more than $500 to get a discontinued model.

Selection Criteria

Since reintroducing this theme, LEGO published more than forty Jurassic World sets in 2018. However, most of these sets are discontinued, and only a handful of models are still in production.

That’s why choosing Jurassic World sets for this article wasn’t a difficult task. Still, I used different parameters to determine which models to include in the final selection. Here are a few key criteria I utilized to pick the best LEGO Jurassic World sets.

Set’s release date – I utilized this parameter to identify all Jurassic World models released within the last few years and eliminate sets retired more than five years ago.
Age group – This criterion has enabled me to choose the best Jurassic World sets for children aged four, six, nine, or older.
Piece count – Checking the piece count of each set I considered for this article has allowed me to pick large and small models suitable for LEGO builders with varying experience levels.

The Best LEGO Jurassic World Sets

1. Baryonyx Dinosaur Escape 76942

Even though it has just 308 pieces, the Baryonyx Dinosaur Escape 76942 set isn’t suitable for children under eight. This is also the first set in the Jurassic World theme that features a floating boat toy.

The boat model has a detachable control room that conceals the cargo and a cage for the Baryonyx dinosaur toy. The set comes with Owen Grady, Darius, Yaz, and guard minifigures, as well as a speedboat and a baby dinosaur figure.

2. Velociraptor: Biplane Rescue Mission 75942

A small and simple set like the Velociraptor: Biplane Rescue Mission 75942 is an excellent choice for first-time LEGO builders. The biplane toy is composed of starter bricks that allow for quick assembly. Besides the biplane toy, this set also features an off-road vehicle and treetop observation post elements.

The vehicle also has a detachable mini-lab element equipped with dinosaur eggs and other accessories. Besides the posable Gallimimus and Pteranodon figures, the set features ACU Trooper, Claire Dearing, and Owen Grady minifigures.

4. T-Rex Dinosaur Fossil Exhibition 76940

Unlike most Jurassic World sets, the T-Rex Dinosaur Fossil Exhibition 76940 doesn’t feature an off-road vehicle. Instead, it allows kids aged seven or older to create a display model of the T-Rex’s skeleton and exhibit it on the display stand that features a plaque.

The set also features a drawing board element equipped with a poster of the dinosaur’s skull and accessories like pointer sticks that allow kids to guide the audience through the exhibition. This Jurassic World model has just two minifigures.

5. Carnotaurus Dinosaur Chase 76941

You should take a closer look at the Carnotaurus Dinosaur Chase 76941 if you’re looking for a set from this theme inspired by the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous TV series. The truck has a detachable roof, which enables kids to place all three minifigures inside its cabin.

In addition, this set comes with a nearly eight inches long helicopter toy equipped with a pair of stud shooters. Aside from the Carnotaurus, this set doesn’t include other dinosaur toys, but despite this, it still offers a broad spectrum of playing options.

6. Stygimoloch Dinosaur Escape 76939

The Stygimoloch Dinosaur Escape 76939 set is designed for young LEGO builders, and even four-year-olds can assemble it by themselves. The off-roader vehicle has the starter brick chassis, and constructing this toy doesn’t require a lot of effort.

Kids can attach the cage element to the vehicle or use it separately. The tree-house post element features fun details like sink, bed, ladder, and slide. In addition to a baby dinosaur and Stygimoloch figures, this set comes with three minifigures and a wide array of accessories.

7. T-Rex and Triceratops Dinosaur Breakout 10939

Toddlers aged two or older are going to love playing with the T-Rex and Triceratops Dinosaur Breakout 10939 set. Despite having just 36 pieces, this set has multiple elements such as the Jurassic World gate, a palm tree, a flower, and a motorcycle.

The mouth of the T-Rex figure opens and closes, but its limbs aren’t adjustable. The baby Triceratops figure isn’t posable. The Owner Grady minifigure is the only minifigure in this set.

8. Pyroraptor & Dilophosaurus Transport 76951 – Only Available for Pre-Order

The off-road vehicle, a detachable trailer, or the dinosaur tracker are some of the elements that make playing with the Pyroraptor & Dilophosaurus Transport 76951 set so fun. The vehicle’s cabin offers space for two minifigures, and its rear end opens to expose the dinosaur tracker element.

The trailer has an opening cage large enough to hold either of the posable dinosaur figures. Ian Malcolm, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and guard minifigures are included in the set, and each minifigure comes with different accessories.

9. Triceratops Pickup Truck Ambush 76950 – Only Available for Pre-Order

Feature-stacked vehicles and a beautiful dinosaur figure are among the reasons why the Triceratops Pickup Truck Ambush 76950 set is one of the best Jurassic World sets you can get.

The pickup truck and off-road escape buggy offer space for two minifigures, and they match perfectly with other sets from this theme.

This upcoming LEGO model will feature minifigures of Franklin Web, Claire Dearing, and two security guards, but it won’t offer any other accessories besides a carrot and a tranquilizing gun.

10. T-Rex Breakout 76956 – Only Available for Ore-Order

Besides being one of the largest sets in this theme, once it is released, the T-Rex Breakout 76956 will also become the first Jurassic World set designed for LEGO builders over 18. It is the only model scheduled for release in 2022 based on Jurassic Park movies.

In addition to an impressive T-Rex figure stepping on the flipped Ford Explorer truck, this set also features a beautiful, intact model of the same vehicle. Ian Malcolm, Tim Murphy, Lex Murphy, and Alan Grant’s minifigures are included in the set.

LEGO discontinued the Indoraptor Rampage at the Lockwood Estate 75903 set a few years ago. However, this is still one of the best, and largest Jurassic World sets you can get. The model of the Lockwood Estate has plenty of fun details like a lab, detachable windows, or flipping beds.

The set comes with Indoraptor, Blue, and baby dinosaur figures as well as minifigures of Eli Mills, Maisie Lockwood, Owen Grady, and other main characters of the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movie.

2. Carnotaurus Gyrosphere Escape 75929

An action-packed set like the Carnotaurus Gyrosphere Escape 75929 is a great fit for kids fascinated by dinosaurs. The truck toy features a detachable mobile control center, and it is equipped with stud shooters, while its cabin can hold two minifigures.

The Indominus Rex vs. Ankylosaurus 75941 is a rare Jurassic World set that doesn’t feature an aircraft or a truck. Instead, it features a gyrosphere station equipped with train tracks, a ticket booth, and a turnstile. The single-seat gyrosphere and falling trees are among the cool features this set offers.

Both dinosaur figures are posable, and the Ankylosaurus model has a movable tail that can swipe minifigures or anything else in its way. Gray brothers, Owen Grady and Zach Mitchel are among Jurassic World characters featured in the set.

Despite a low piece count, the Dilophosaurus Outpost Attack 75931 is an entertaining set that enables children to develop a wide range of play scenarios. The outpost fence element has a watchtower and a rotatable crane that can carry the crate accessories over the wall.

The exploding function is available for wall and gate elements, and kids can activate it during the dinosaur attack. Accessories like binoculars, dinosaur eggs, and walkie-talkies are included in the set, as well as three minifigures.
