LEGO published almost twenty sets inspired by characters from the Winnie the Pooh movies and books. However, these sets vanished entirely from the company’s product lineup by 2011, and for the next ten years, LEGO didn’t publish a single set based on this fictional teddy bear.

Overview of the LEGO Winnie the Pooh subtheme

LEGO’s collaboration with Disney began in 1999. That same year the company released its first building sets based on Winnie the Pooh and Mickey the Mouse characters.

Winnie the Pooh became the subtheme of the LEGO Duplo theme that initially contained seven sets, including models like Pooh’s Corner 2981 and the Pooh N’ Piglet’s Honey Hunt 2984. LEGO added just one set to this subtheme the following year.

The company published eight new Winnie the Pooh sets in 2001, but none of these sets contained more than forty pieces. As a result, this subtheme was retired that same year, and for the next ten years, LEGO didn’t release new Winnie the Pooh sets.

Tigger’s Expedition 5946, Winnie the Pooh’s House 5947, and Winnie Pooh’s Picnic 5945 sets were released in 2011 as a part of an attempt to restore this LEGO Duplo subtheme. However, these sets were short-lived, and they were retired by the end of 2012.

Active LEGO Winnie the Pooh sets

On April 1, 2021, LEGO released its first Winnie the Pooh set in ten years. Unlike all previous sets published within the LEGO Duplo theme, the Winnie the Pooh 21326 set isn’t aimed at children. Instead, this set was released within the LEGO Ideas theme.

In fact, the company recommends this set to adult LEGO fans aged 18 or older. LEGO’s latest Winnie the Pooh set contains 1,265 pieces, and it is much larger than any of the earlier sets that covered this theme.

It is difficult to say how long the Winnie the Pooh 21326 set will remain in production. However, according to several sources, the set could be discontinued during 2022.

Finding a retired Winnie the Pooh set

LEGO published less than twenty Winnie the Pooh sets since 1999, and the vast majority of these sets were retired two decades ago. Moreover, all sets published before 2021 were aimed at children under four, and they don’t contain more than fifty pieces.

In fact, the Pooh’s Honeypot set published in 2000 that contained 44 pieces was the largest Winnie the Pooh LEGO set before the Winnie the Pooh 21326 set was published. Unfortunately, finding sets from this LEGO Duplo subtheme can be incredibly difficult because only a handful of online retailers still have them in stock.

The most important factors to consider while choosing a Winne the Pooh LEGO set

If you’re searching for a LEGO set inspired by Winnie the Pooh, the options you have at your disposal are limited because the company doesn’t publish new Winnie Pooh sets frequently.

Although it may seem that choosing a Winnie the Pooh LEGO set doesn’t require a lot of time or effort, you should still consider several factors that can help you find the right set. I shortlisted a few factors that can make the selection process easier, so let’s take a look at them.

Set’s availability

As I already pointed out, Winnie the Pooh LEGO sets can be incredibly difficult to find. The latest Winnie the Pooh set is in high demand, and you may not be able to find it in LEGO-certified stores or order it from the manufacturer’s website.

Most online retailers don’t have retired Winnie the Pooh sets in stock, and it might take you a while to find sets that were released in 2011 or earlier.

Release date

Winnie the Pooh subtheme was discontinued just two years after it was launched. Except for the failed attempt made to restore this subtheme in 2011, LEGO didn’t add any new Winnie the Pooh sets to its product portfolio for two decades.

Hence, you can either opt for one of the sets published between 1999 and 2001, get one of the three sets released in 2011, or choose the Winnie the Pooh set LEGO released in 2021. Knowing the set’s release date you’re looking for can make finding it much more manageable.

Age group and piece count

All Winnie the Pooh sets published between 1999 and 2011 were aimed at children under four. Just two sets released during this time contained 40 or more pieces, while some models had less than ten parts.

That’s why these sets don’t have much to offer to children above the age of 5. With 1,265 pieces, the latest Vinnie the Pooh set is the largest set based on this character you can get. However, this set is aimed at adults, and it isn’t suitable for children under the age of 18.

LEGO surprised its fans with the Winnie the Pooh 21326 set in 2021, the brand’s first set inspired by the legendary Disney movie after ten years. Unlike all previous versions of Winnie the Pooh sets, this set was released within the LEGO Ideas theme.

In addition to the model of the Five Hundred Acre Wood, this set contains numerous details like Pooh-Coo clock, honeypots, or Pooh’s armchair. Rabbit, Piglet, Tiger, Winnie the Pooh, and Eeyore figures are included in the set, and each of them is equipped with different accessories.

The bridge element has a brown wooden railing from one side, and it holds the Tiger mini-figure equipped with the fishing stick. The riverbank element is almost entirely green except for the orange and yellow flowers.

I recommend the Winnie the Pooh 21326 set if you don’t want to go through the trouble of looking for retired sets, but keep in mind that this set isn’t suitable for children.
